At the begining of last June, the university closed all the Men’s Washrooms on the floor my office is on.
Apparently they were to get redecorated. Today, almost 5 months later, the toliets were reopened. Can you believe it took them 5 months to do the work?! And people say i complain about service in this country too much.
Anyways, The toliets are very nice. I do miss all the graffiti that used to be on the doors of the stalls as well as the way the toliets felt when you sat on them. On a happy note, they installed MIXER TAPS. One of the small things i find frustrating here is that most sinks have the hot and cold water coming out of different spouts. You cannot wash you hands with out either the water being scalding hot or freezing cold. Apparently someone here realised that the mixer tap has been invented.
It really made my day that I was once again able to stay on my floor to take care of business.
Now just so you know, the lifts in our building have been undergoing repairs this whole time as well. They still aren’t fixed and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight for that construction.

I was cruising through the OED and came across the following words.
Bolk and Whatchamacallit
The first means to give vent to, ejaculate, vociferate.
and the second is obvious.
I want to work Bolk into my thesis some how. Probably something to do with masses getting ejected through threebody encounters.
“Threebody systems bolk masses to infinity”
I would like to use whatchamacallit as well. After all, it is in the OED so is fair game to use.
I think if i use the phrase “To Wit” again in any of my writing, my advisor will kill me.

I was reading the Metro today (for those of you back home this is the free paper you get on the bus here) and there was an article about the rise of abortion rates in Scotland. What really got my attention was that the article was referring to abortion as Emergency Contraception.
I thought contraception was supposed to prevent people from becoming pregnant. Am I wrong on this. The OEDs defn of Conceive:
Conceive:To receive (seed) in the womb; to become pregnant with (young).
Contraception is supposed to prevent people from conceiving.
And just in case people are going to start commenting about the morning after pill all all that, I will clear the air; it was clear the article was referring to abortions in the general sense.
Ohhh… I am in a rant in my head again.
This is partly fueled by the Maths dept allowing some post grads to claim twice the hour rate than others for no real reason. But really, how can you compare that to the above.

I was told today by a friend of ours that I have old man slippers. The slippers that I currently own were purchased for me by an ex-girl friend, Angela Sing, 10 years ago and where filled with werther’s candies. Do you like how I slipped that name in. Perhaps she will google herself stumble across this blog. So Hi Angela! But I digress….
Anyways, These slippers are so old that I cannot find them anywhere on the internet. Here is a picture of some slippers that look kinda like the ones I have.

The thing is, my slippers rock. They are slip airs with a rubber sole. They breath well and have never got too smelly. They are machine washable and are warm. They rock the free world. The thing is, they do kinda look like old man slippers.
Perhaps I should get some new ones. However, even though these are about 10 years old, they are still in good condition. Not smelly; no holes. They are really well made slippers.
These are just one more thing that make me feel old. Golly, who has slippers which are 10 years old. Not only that, who has old man slippers which are 10 years old. My music tastes solidified in 1993; I am a whole generation older than some of the first year post grads. How long is a generation anyways? Is it 10 years?
*sigh*
