I have fallen and so, as David says, ‘another Blog bites the Dust’…………

Huh??

Yup as the Scots would say I have fallen………………….pregnant, which is an expression that I just don’t get. In fact they will even conjugate this expression such as ‘when I fell pregnant I was 25′, I mean it seems as though they seem to think it is some sort of accident, the cause of which they simply cannot put their finger on. I have thus far resisted in pointed out that ‘falling pregnant’ is truly a fabulous example of ‘Cause and Effect’. In fact it would make explaining hypothesis creation to high school students quite simple. Now that I think about it perhaps this ‘accidental cause’ of pregnancy is one of the many underlying causes of the high rates of teenage pregnancy in the country, mmm……..but I digress.

David and I are, to say the least, very pleased. I am currently a little over 15 weeks pregnant which puts my ‘estimated due date’ (another place I could use the high school science experiment comparison as I expect it to have about that much accuracy) at the 19th of August. I have been doing well and am pleased to be ‘in the second trimester’ if only because I seem to have returned to a normal appetite but, if you notice the time, I still have this lovely habit of waking up in the middle of the night (not a wise thing to complain about to your friends who have kids as they either smile conspiratorially or let you know that it is your body’s way of preparing you for the decades ahead.) Alas I was only hoping for another 2 or 3 months of blissful sleep and then I know no sleep for quite awhile.

Which brings me to David’s point and here I expect it would be best to quote him:

Hey Everyone. Well, the title might be a little misleading for this post and it could also be put to a Queen Song (the second half of the title anyway.) I am amazed how, when bloggers have babies, their blog posts’ take a turn in a different direction. People usually start mainly posting about their kids. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but when you are our age, many of your friends start to have babies and soon most of the blogs you read are baby blogs.

So we are going to join that wonderful club of baby bloggers. Our Baby will most probably be born in Bonny Scotland and are all you Canadians thinking what I’m thinking??…. EU passport.

I have big news!

Our faithful readers may be familiar with my obsession with trying to read “Moby Dick”. After 2 years, and 4 attempts, I have finally finished reading this book. I think that my quest to finish this book, parallels Ahabs obsession with killing the Great White Beast. Minor difference include: I survived the reading of the book; I have all my limbs; The only people to die in my quest were the fictional characters in the book. My comments about the book are as follows:

- very well written. you’ll actually feel like you are experiencing what is in the book.
- if you ever want to become a whaler, you could use this for educational purpose. Here I am referring to the pages and pages of whale anatomy, life aboard a whaling ship, etc, etc.
- the book has a good begining and a great ending… you have to get trough all the rest.

I think my next literary conquest will be “Waverley” by Sir Walter Scott. (I am already 10 pages into it).

off the top of my head, here are my top 5 favorite books of all time (no particular order)

1- Les Miserable
2- Count of Monte Cristo
3- Screwtape letters
4- Microserfs
5- Gilead

other note worthy books include
-no great mischief
-Byzantium
-Stangers and Sorjourners
-Cry, the beloved country
-beach music
-till we have faces

I think in a previous post you’ll find a similar list. Perhaps with different books. This list is for this moment in time.

Thursday morning song

Filed under: Uncategorized — Neyir @ 9:16 am Comments 9

Now I am not one for making up songs, particularly not new lyrics to existing tunes but this one just came to me this morning. Please ignore all non-feminism implications ;-)
I’m a good little wifey - sung to the tune of Do-da, do-da, day

I’m a good litttle wifey, I’m a good little wifey, I’m a good little wi-i-fey
Ye-e-es I am
Y-e-e-s I am etc.

Why oh why would this come into my head and why would I allow it to pass my lips (the vocalisation was unintended I promise). Well today David is responsible for bringing ‘cake’ to the Post Graduate Colloquia and had asked me to make one with the caveat ‘There is not usually enough to go around’. This, as many of you know, is near sacriledge in my world and so over the course of the last two days (NB I walked in the door at 8pm last night not yet having had dinner) I made the following: Chocolate Ameretto Cheesecake (a little dry due to the extreme lack of sour cream in the UK and the necessity to use Creme fraiche which is usually fab but as I could only get my hands on low fat…), Toffee (very, very addictive! The most requested recipe from our X-mas eve party, I shall post it soon) and Tangy Lemon Squares (I am very pleased with this new recipe as they set beautifully which lemon squares are notorious for not doing.)

I even spent 30 minutes this morning serving up all the treats and dusting them with the appropriate powders to ensure a good presentation (I am trying not to think what they will look like once David has walked to the bus, riden(sp?) said bus and then walked to Uni. I am feeling very benevolent today. FYI though I am still in my PJs and it is 8.15am - eek, I feel a late morning coming on…
