It has been a really long time since i have use a computer with windows on it. At school I mainly use linux machines, and at home we have a Mac.
Well, recently the church has bought a new laptop to run our projection system. I have been busily setting it up. It is amazing just how noticably slower things run on the Windows machine compared to the Mac. Also, when I use it, I feel the computer thinks that I am a child. All of these warnings pop up at me; you have to confirm things countless times. Can you belive that with a brand new machine, it still took windoze a good min to boot up.
The only cool thing was that I got my first real experience with Windows Vista. I don’t really notice anything all that spectacular about it. In fact, I don’t see what all the hoopla is about it. It is still a cumbersome operating system which required me to install a firewall/virus checker before connecting to the internet.
My mac still takes seconds to boot up (and we’ve had it a year). I don’t have to instal any anti-virus stuff on it. Most importantly though, I don’t feel like a child when I use it.
K… that’s all for now.

Sorry for the lag in our posts. To be perfectly honest, we have both been really busy. Neyir has been busy being pregnant (amount other things), and I have been busy trying to get my work done. Also, our computer is in for repairs, so we don’t have a computer at home. Hopefully, this will change next week.
Lately, whenever I attend a seminar or talk, I bring some work to do while i listen to the talk. This week, Richard turned to me as said, “David, you keep bringing the same pages to these talks”. That would have been depressing If that were the case. In his defence, I have been using the same equations to prove different things. Here is a graph of something to I am trying to explain, (there are three curves on top of each other)

But no one wants me to go into an explanation about all of that.
On a down note, today is Saturday and I am at university trying to do some work. Arrgggg…. I think many of my saturdays are going to be spend doing this.
I have managed to fund half of my trip to Capri, Italy for a Conference this September. I am really looking forward to that trip. The conference is dedicated to my supervisors 60th birthday. This is a must attend conference. Hopefully they will let me give a talk. I even have a snappy title: “More on the reliability of N-body integrations”.
Some how I’ll need to work the phrase “premature ejection” into it and see who snickers.

I gave talk today to the post-grad community. The talk had the snappy title: “Following in the footsteps of Henon - making approximations that work”
It went well i think. It turned out to be a surprising 50 min in length. I was pleased. Maybe some of those who attended it can put some feedback as comments. Keep it civil everyone!
if you are interested in seeing the slides, you can check out the PDF here.
Sorry, there is no audio.
