to reveal itself, I made a Jamblya for dinner tonight. Included in it were 3 chillis. Also, and you all might find this weird, but it was made with bratwurst sausages instead of something like chorizo. This didn’t take too much flavor away (although didn’t contriubute much) as brawurst soak up flavour from the sauce. Also, the bratwurst are super cheap at Lidl. The spice wasn’t too over powering, but it still burned the tongue as we ate. The best Jamblya i ever made was for some friend who used to live on Bowen Island.
anyways…. no baby news. Stay tuned though as it could be any time now!

any suggestions on how to encourage Baby Urminsky to reveal itself to the world?

Baby U is now offically ‘overdue’ as yesterday came and went without incident. I have always thought the EDD (Estimated Due Date) was a bit silly though necessary as it is not as though anybody has told the baby that they are supposed to be born on such and such a day. I have also always suspected that I would go over and as such have not been in a big hurry to prepare. We are, however, packed and ‘ready to go’ but realise we may still have a while to go. Having said that I know the midwives will not be happy to see me go very far over 10 days so I reckon with one thing and another there ought to be news by September 1st. (Quick cultural note here - in the UK all low-risk pregnant women and births are attended by midwives as they are considered the experts on normal birth and pregnancy, you would only see a consultant (OB) if there were complications.)
For those of you who know that I essentially started maternity leave in the middle of July you may wonder what I have been up to. Well beyond the obvious such as washing all of the things for baby (many generously donated by our friends Melissa and Allan), keeping the flat cleaning, baking (as always) and organising our finances etc I have been accomplishing various creative tasks. I hope to put up a few pictures later but so far I have; made one pair of proper lined curtains and two pairs of shears, have created a variety of cushion covers and pillowcases (some to match the curtains), have done some fabric painting (less tacky than it sounds) and have knitted 2.5 sweaters for baby and one ‘wee willie winkie hat’. I also am part of a group of super lovely and supportive preganant ladies (all due around the same time) that formed spontaneously one day after aquanatal class (the only day I went as I couldn’t move the next day due to pelvis pain). We meet up 1 to 2 times a week often for 4 hours at a time. As you might expect there is lots of baby/pregnancy chat and many, many treats! Once we all have our babes we will no doubt have to cut down our socialising but it is so fantastic to be part of this group and to be around other ladies who can pack away as many croissants as I can ;-).
Hope you are all doing well and we do promise to post news as soon as we have it. In the meantime thank you for all you thought, prayers, phonecalls and emails - we miss you all!

Well, to all you lurkers who are looking for what is inside the androgenous bump, we have no news to report.
But in preperation of the upcoming event, I have been busily preparing for my upcoming conferences. Here is a preview of my Poster for the conference in Capri. I think it could be used as funky cool art for the people of this day and age who fit the yuppie mold of the 80’s. Picture it the size of an A0 hanging on your wall…. you know you want it! I could provide a large version with higher resolution if you want to print your own copy. Click on the image to see a larger view.

No, we haven’t had our baby yet, but I thought I would relay a funny statement.
Today we had our weekly astronomy tea and there was much discussion about who/what Baby Urminsky will be and when the androgynous bump will reveal itself to the world.
During the conversation, my supervisor pipes up with:
“All the best Astronomers have girls!”
it helps to know that he has two of his own!

On Saturday Neyir and I went to the market to see if we could by some fresh fruit and veg and perhaps dinner. Well, we managed to get some great looking raspberries and some yummy rye bread. I was really excited when Neyir agreed to get a red deer and partridge pie! The was locally hunted game that was then made into pie. It was really tasty. During our dinner i felt something like a stone in my mouth and upon pulling it out noted that it was a ball bearing from a shot gun blast. It must have been in the partridge from when it got shot. Mmmmmm, nothing like knowing how your food was killed.
It reminded me of a conversation I had with a vegetarian in our department. During the conversation She said she thinks it is ok to eat meat the was hunted for. We have some left overs, perhaps she would be interested in trying some?

I don’t want to just post baby post after baby post, but I want to share the following with all of you.
Last week when Neyir’s parents arrived in the airport, her father emerges from customs with two not small boxes with him. Well, today we unpacked them and built what was inside. It was a cradle hand made by Steve! It is absolutely gorgeous. It is made out of cherry with poplar slats.
It is truely a work of love.
here are some photos of it.

Yesterday Neyir, Steve and I went to Crammond. For you long term readers of the is blog you might remember an earlier post about Neyir and I in Cramond.
Well, the main photos I took this time were some late pregnancy photos of Neyir. Here they are for your enjoyment.
