Or so it seems. Apparently I have officially graduated to non-tourist status. I base this on the fact that I am now regularly asked for directions by both Brits and non alike. I suppose the rationale is that a women with a pram/buggy/pushchair/stroller is unlike to have travelled a very far distance. Tricky. In two days I was asked for directions 3 times and quite specific non tourist directions as well - ‘Where is John Lewis?’ (big department store) as well as typical tourist ‘Where is the grassmarket?’ (that was north-americans.) I must say while I am not usually overly bothered by assumption concerning my person I find this one grates a little. I suppose it is the implication that I must live close by as I am out with such a little person and I must admit the plans David and I had for a quick vacation at the end of this month seems like a pipe dream. Not because Maxwell doesn’t travel well but rather because with all his clobber and ours it end up feeling like too much work. Nope I think the only other trip we will take in 2007 will be to local spots - you know exotic places like the grocery store ;-).

So Maxwell and I have been home for a week and a half and I have been meaning to sit down and write a quick update. We had a spectacular time at home, it was wonderful to visit with family and friends and to have them all meet Maxwell. I must admit to being more than a little biased but I thought Maxwell did a superb job charming everyone and was the easiest flying companion I have found yet!
David and I are now at the point of beginning to make decisions as to where we will live next and so I felt that part of the time I was home was spent evaluating what it would be like to move back to Canada. Here is a quick list of things that I miss, in no particular order:
1. Family and friends
2. Not being around for important events such as my mother’s hip operation and the birth of my best friend’s daughter (both of which took place in the same hospital yesterday!)
3. Beautiful sunny, crisp autumn weather
4. Fall folliage (1 l or two???)
5. Proper farmer’s markets
6. The extreme kindness of strangers (making all travelling with Max a dream)
7. On a theme - the extreme politeness of Canadians as witnessed by the friendly arguement at the farmer’s market as everyone claimed that so-and-so was here before me and should be served first
8. Tim Horton’s and Swiss Chalet
9. CBC in all its forms
10. And in hommage to my new lifestyle - having family to help change all those diapers!!!
And surprisingly not making the list? For the first time in my life I do not miss driving as the whole thing is stressful as 1. I now feel as though I am on the wrong side of the street the whole time and 2. I have precious, precious cargo :-).

So I have some almost big news.
Maxwell almost rolled over today.
It was great to see him try to swing his leg over to get closer to me because I was blowing into his face. I wanna get a video of it. It was all too much for him though as he spent 3 min trying to roll over. He got frustrated and started to cry. It was soooooo cute.

So it has been a while since my last post.
I have been spending the last 5 days or so back in the UK as a bachelor. I haven’t managed to get comfortably back on UK time. I fall asleep at 4 and wake up at 8 for school. I am very tired.
Today I was on the bus and as I walked to the back looking for a free paper to read some guy offered the paper he was reading to me. I happily accept and sit down near him. It was then I noted he was drinking some kind of sparkeling wine right form the bottle and he was really drunk. He struck up a conversation telling me about his past life in crime and how he learned to read in prison and now he could write his middle name. He gave me a number of some guy who can supply me with stolen goods for cheap prices. then he got off the bus.
I said a prayer for him then turned to the paper he gave me. In the paper I saw an article about stuffed animals that look like microbs http://www.giantmicrobes.com/uk/ . check them out. If anyone wants to send one to me, I like the Ebola and the E.Coli stuffed animal. I think Max would like the Flesh Eating one.
