Happy (Early) First Birthday Maxer-J

Urminsky Olympics 2008 were celebrated yesterday in honour of Maxwell’s first birthday. We did have his party early as he had expressed a desire to spend his ‘actual’ birthday in Spain and not being one to quible with traveling we have decided to oblige. We had a fantastic day and as an added bonus wonderful weather. It had been raining here all week and while that wouldn’t usually be a big problem for a one-year old’s birthday (given that they do not yet necessitate that many birthday activities) for us and the attendant ‘Stubbini’ it could have got tricky. I was prepared to do all indoor games but was thankful that we could take Maxwell’s four godsiblings, and Alanna outside for a rolicking good time (or just an average Stubbs day!). I won’t bore you with too much detail but suffice it to say I forced everyone to participate in at least an event, more physical for the kids and mental for the parents, we ate olympic themed food (thanks to Melissa and Rosemary) and snacked on fantastic desserts from my friend Jo and dove into an Olympic ring cake (photos on the right.) We don’t have as many photos as I would like, particularly outside but I think that is sometimes the result of everyone having a good time - not a spare moment for pictures. We are off to Spain in a week and I suspect will then make up for the lack of photos. We have a fab ‘1st birthday candle’ to take with us to celebrate the actual day and wonderful friends, Craig and Judith and bump are traveling with us - or us with them? Semantics. Today Maxer and I are skipping church to attend one of his friends birthday picnics - trust me when I say that in this country if the weather is good you just have to take advantage, it only happens 5 or 6 days a year anyway ;-).

We have had some requests for a frontal shot of Maxwell walking. So here it is…. I think this is his version of running.

Maxwell Walks

Maxwell has been walking on and off for just over a week. He does it quite randomly and not for very long so it was hard to get it on film. Finally we got him on video walking across out living room and kitchen. Most of this is his back.

First Steps

Although the video shows Maxwell walking with the aid of his stroller, a couple of days ago Maxwell took his first few steps unassisted! When we get that on video we’ll post it for you… Meanwhile you’ll have to make due with the amusing video below! :-)
